CAPMAS: Egypt-India Trade Exchange Rises to $5.2 Billion

Data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) revealed a significant jump in Egyptian exports to India during the year 2021, recording $2.6 billion from $1.4 billion in 2020, an increase of 85.7%.

CAPMAS said that Egyptian exports to India reached $1.5 billion in 2019, from $1.1 billion in 2018, and $0.9 billion in 2017.

The Central Statistical Organization stated that the value of Egyptian imports from India amounted to $3 billion in 2021 from $2.6 billion in 2020, an increase of 15.4%.

The Egyptian imports from India reached $2.94 billion in 2019, from $2.28 billion in 2018, and $2.34 in 2017.

The value of trade exchange between Egypt and India increased during the first 10 months of 2022, as the exchange value reached $5.2 billion from $4.3 billion in 2021.

The value of Egyptian exports to India amounted to $1.5 billion during the first 10 months of 2022, compared to $1.8 billion during the same period in 2021, a decrease of 13.7%.

The agency pointed out that the value of Egyptian imports from India recorded $3.7 billion during the first 10 months of 2022, compared to $2.5 billion during the same period in 2021, an increase of 44.8%.

The most important commodity groups that Egypt exported to India during the first 10 months of 2022 were fuel, mineral oils and their distillation products worth $878 million, inorganic chemical products worth $199.7 million, fertilizers worth $185.7 million, salt, sulfur and stones worth $68.4 million, and cotton worth $61.9 million.

The most important commodity groups that Egypt imported from India during the first 10 months of 2022 were meat worth $588.7 million, Iron and steel with a value of $507.3 million, fuel, mineral oils and their distillation products with a value of $440.6 million, organic chemical products with a value of $298.7 million, and boilers, machinery and  equipment with a value of $210.4 million.

It is noteworthy that the value of remittances of Egyptians working in India recorded $5.82 million during the fiscal year 2020/21 compared to $5.75 million during the fiscal year 2019/20, an increase of 1.1%.

While the value of remittances from Indians working in Egypt amounted to $14.35 million during the fiscal year 2020/21, compared to $14.32 million during the fiscal year 2019/20, an increase of 0.2%.

The number of Egyptians residing in India, according to the mission's estimates, is 300 Egyptians by the end of 2021.
