CAPMAS: 8.44% Decrease in Manufacturing, Extractive Index in April

Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) issued a press release of primary data of manufacturing and extractive industries of production index of April 2023.

CAPMAS has updated the index methodology using the base year 2012/2013 and at the level of main indices of industrial activity according to Industrial Activity Manual (ISIC Rev.4) and by using the monthly index (for producer prices based on 2012/2013) That's since January 2020.

The manufacturing and extractive industries index (excluding crude oil and petroleum products) reached 99.33 during April 2023 (primary) compared to 108.49 during March 2023 (final) decrease by 8.44%.

Economic Activities that witness an increase are as followed:

• The Manufacture of basic metals reached 77.67 during April 2023, compared to March 2023, reaching 58.85, an increase by 31.98 % due to market needs.

• The Manufacture of transport equipment reached 128.60 during April 2023, compared to March 2023, reaching 118.95, an increase by 8.11% due to market needs.

• Manufacture of electrical equipment; reached 103.61 during April 2023, compared to March 2023, reaching 130.27 a decrease by 25.73%, due to the lack of raw materials due to the lack of raw materials for the product.

• Manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations; reached 92.50 during April 2023, compared to March 2023, reaching 116.59 a decrease by 20.66%, due to the availability of stocks of the product.
