CAPMAS: 152.9 Thousand Km Total Lengths of Road Network in Egypt

Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) issued on Wednesday the report "Roads, and Bridges Inventory Bulletin 2021/2022".

• Main indicators include: 

The total length of the road network (paved and dirt) at the Republic level reached 152.9 thousand km in 2021/2022, according to the implementation and supervision authorities.

The total length of the paved road network at the Republic level reached 124.9 thousand km in 2021/2022. The total length of the dirt road network at the republic level reached 28 thousand km in 2021/2022.

According to dependency, the length of the road network of the General Authority for Roads and Bridges reached 28.8 thousand km, or 18.8%, the length of the road network of Roads directorates/localities reached 106.1 thousand km, or 69.4%, and the length of the road network of New Urban Communities Authority reached 17.1 thousand km or 11.2% in 2021/2022.

The report also showed that the total number of bridges at the Republic level was 46016 bridges, including 40263 bridges of Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation by 87.5 %, 2334 bridges belonging to General Authority for Roads and Bridges by 5.1%,2284 bridges of Directorate of Roads / Localities in the governorates by 5%,174 bridges of the new urban communities by 0.4 %, 939 bridge continued of National Railways Authority of Egypt by 2 %, and 7 bridges of Suez Canal by 0.02%, 15 National Authority for Tunnels by 0.03% of the total in 2021/2022.

According to the usage, the number of footbridges reached 9 bridges by 0.4%, vehicle bridges reached 1192 by 51.1%, and 1133 other bridges by 48.5% of the total number of bridges belonging to General Authority for Roads and Bridges in 2021/2022.

 The total number of tunnels according to dependency reached 241 tunnels, including 66 tunnels of Directorates of Roads / Localities by 27.4%,139 tunnels of General Authority for Roads and Bridges by 57.7%, 24 tunnels of the New Urban Communities Authority by 10.0%, 5 tunnels of Suez Canal Authority by 2.1%, 7 tunnels of National Authority for Tunnels by 2.9% of the total in 2021/2022.

 According to the usage, the number of vehicle tunnels reached 39 by 16.2%, footbridges 202 bridges by 83.8 % of the total in 2021/2022.
