A car rammed into two Capitol Police officers at a barricade outside the U.S. Capitol on Friday afternoon, and the driver got out of the vehicle as he was brandishing a knife before being shot by authorities.
“A suspect is in custody,” the Capitol Police stated on Twitter. “Both officers are injured. All three have been transported to the hospital.”
The Capitol Police officers and the driver were taken to the hospital, the officials said.
Sources told CNN that one officer has died. The suspect also died as he was in critical condition.
The Capitol complex was locked down, as the agency instructed staff to remain indoors, away from doors and windows, as eyewitnesses posted videos of a large law enforcement response.
