Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney warned that any vote in Alberta on secession from Canada could become a "dangerous gamble" similar to Brexit, with repercussions that could last for years.
Carney's remarks, as reported by the Associated Press on Tuesday, came after Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announced last week that a vote would be held on October 19 on whether the oil-rich province should remain part of Canada or take legal steps toward a binding referendum on secession.
