Canada and Mexico have dispatched firefighters and equipment to assist in battling the massive wildfires ravaging Southern California, demonstrating solidarity with the United States.

The fires, which have spread across over 38,000 acres, have already claimed at least 16 lives.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced on Saturday that a team of firefighters from Mexico was en route to Los Angeles to support efforts against the blazes.

She highlighted the team’s mission as one of courage, symbolizing Mexico's support in the ongoing battle against the fires.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also showed his country’s solidarity, sharing a video of a plane spraying water over a wildfire and commenting, “Neighbors helping neighbors.”

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection welcomed assistance from both neighboring countries as well as from US states like Arizona and Texas.

They emphasized that the reinforcements were crucial, not only in aiding fire containment but also in providing immediate relief to the brave frontline firefighters.

Meanwhile, California authorities warned that they would take legal action against anyone flying drones in restricted airspace, which has become a major concern after one drone recently collided with a firefighting aircraft.

Since the fires started, there have been 48 reported drone incursions into restricted zones, causing halts in aerial firefighting efforts.
