Canada designated on Wednesday the far-right group "Proud Boys" as a terrorist group.
Public Safety Minister Bill Blair expressed that the main reason behind naming the group as a terrorist one was its participation in the Washington D.C. riots according to the BBC.
After this decision, all assets of the members of the "Proud Boys" would be frozen and accused of terrorism and violence.
Moreover, the "Proud Boys" past is full of violent political acts and confrontations. Also, all members of the group are anti-immigrant.
Furthermore, this decision came one week after the US Department of Homeland Security revealed that there is a threat of domestic terrorism opposing Biden's victory.
In the same context, Blair described the group as a "growing threat of ideologically motivated violent extremism".
He highlighted that at least two Canadians were identified in media reports that discussed the riots in the US capital. Besides, reports showed a Canadian flag held by a guy among protestors.
By this designation, Canada became the first country to name the "Proud Boys" a terrorist entity.
The "Proud Boys" was founded in 2016 by Gavin McInnes, and it was mentioned by the former US President Trump amid the final presidential debates last year.
