Cameroon Ambassador to Egypt Hails Long-Standing Bilateral Ties of Friendship, Solidarity

The Ambassador of Cameroon to Cairo and Dean of the African Diplomatic Corps, Dr. Mohamadou Labarang, stated that relations between Egypt and Cameroon are built on a long history of friendship, solidarity, and mutual respect.

He added that both countries have constantly worked together to promote peace, stability, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts at both regional and international levels. 

This came during his speech on Wednesday at a reception organized by the Embassy of Cameroon to celebrate the 54th anniversary of its National Unity Day.

​The Ambassador highlighted the alignment of Egyptian-Cameroonian viewpoints and the shared vision of both countries' leaders regarding the importance of dialogue, cooperation, and effective security. 

Furthermore, he emphasized that numerous opportunities exist in the fields of infrastructure, transport, energy, agriculture, industry, housing, digital economy, and trade. 

Labarang also praised the work being done by certain Egyptian companies in Cameroon, noting that his country is one of the top producers of tropical timber.

​On the economic front, the Ambassador stated that more efforts are needed because the opportunities are readily available, stressing the importance of working closer with the Egyptian private sector on major projects such as infrastructure, energy, agriculture, and the digital economy. 

Regarding cultural cooperation, he stressed that culture builds long-term relations and there is still much to be done, expressing his confidence in achieving further progress by organizing visits for Cameroonian artists.

​On another note, the Ambassador said that they are celebrating a National Day which bears this year’s theme, "National Unity: The Pillar of Our Defense and the Bedrock of Cameroon’s Development."

He added that the theme of unity, repeated year after year, strongly reflects the Cameroonian people's commitment to harmony and peaceful coexistence.

Moreover, Labarang noted that tangible progress continues to be made in efforts to restore peace and stability in the North-West and South-West regions through dialogue, reconstruction, and decentralization. 

Additionally, Cameroonian diplomacy has secured brilliant successes, such as the country's election to the presidency of the United Nations General Assembly.

​He explained that Cameroon has once again proven the maturity of its democratic institutions through the successful organization of pluralistic presidential elections won by President Paul Biya, pointing to his relentless efforts to ensure cohesion and harmony among all segments of the Cameroonian people. 

Labarang added that these elections were characterized by strong competitiveness, serving as a clear sign of vibrant political participation and respect for republican institutions, thereby enhancing the democratic culture built by the Cameroonian people over the years.

​On the domestic front, the Ambassador pointed to the tangible progress made to restore security and stability in the North-West and South-West regions. 

Moreover, he attributed this improvement to dialogue, reconstruction, and the implementation of decentralization, alongside the continuous commitment of the defense and security forces, which has resulted in the gradual return of displaced persons and the resumption of socio-economic activities in those areas.

The Cameroonian ambassador also stressed his country's keenness to enhance effective governance and institutional performance, citing recent reforms in the country which included the creation of the post of Vice President of the Republic, reflecting the determination of the state's highest authorities to develop the nation's administrative and political structure.

​The ceremony was attended by Minister of Culture Dr. Gihan Zaki, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Mohamed Abu Bakr, and Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for African Affairs Ambassador Mohamed Karim Sherif. 

A number of ambassadors also attended the event, representing Palestine, Serbia, Greece, Cyprus, Armenia, Romania, Uganda, Rwanda, Albania, Malaysia, Angola, Norway, Slovenia, the Vatican, Austria, and Switzerland. Additionally, the reception was attended by the Deputy Ambassador of Morocco, the Deputy Ambassador of South Korea, the Deputy Ambassador of Uzbekistan, and the Chargé d'Affaires of the North Korean Embassy.
