Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defense has accused Thai military forces of launching cross-border attacks on Cambodian military positions in the An Ses area, escalating tensions along the frontier.
According to the Khmer Times, the ministry said in a statement on Saturday that Thai troops opened fire around 11:52 a.m. against Cambodian forces stationed near the border.
Lieutenant General Maly Sochetra, Secretary of State and spokesperson for the ministry, stated that the Cambodian forces exercised maximum restraint and did not return fire. He added that the attacks were ongoing at the time of the statement.
The ministry reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to fully respecting and implementing the existing ceasefire agreement between the two countries, stressing its determination to work closely with Thailand at all levels to restore peace and stability.
