Thousands of residents were ordered to evacuate as a fast-moving wildfire driven by strong winds threatened homes in southern California.
The so-called Sandy Fire spread through hills overlooking Simi Valley, northwest of Los Angeles, sending heavy smoke across the area.
Authorities issued evacuation orders for several neighborhoods as firefighters battled to contain the blaze amid dangerous weather conditions.
Emergency crews remain on high alert as strong winds continue to fuel the wildfire’s rapid spread.
