A major highway in California was temporarily closed on Saturday as US Marines conducted live-fire exercises over the roadway as part of celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the Marine Corps.
US Vice President JD Vance attended the event.
The closure affected a 27-kilometer stretch of the busy highway connecting Los Angeles and San Diego, leading to heavy traffic congestion that lasted for several hours.
The large-scale military demonstration featured fighter jets, amphibious ships, controlled explosions in a simulated village, and Marine units deploying from helicopters into the Pacific Ocean.
The exercise formed part of a series of commemorative events showcasing the Marine Corps’ history, combat readiness, and cooperation between air, land, and sea forces.
