California, the biggest state in the United States has become the first state in which coronavirus infections exceeded two million, just six weeks after registering one million, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

The infection with the coronavirus (COVID-19)  in California in terms of the number of cases per 100,000 people is lower than the average in the US, but with 40 million people, it surpasses other states.

More than 23,500 California residents have died from the virus since the pandemic began.

The state has witnessed a tremendous rise in the number of cases in recent weeks, followed by high hospitalization and death rates that overwhelmed intensive care units and prompted hospitals to treat patients in offices and halls.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (USDCP) said that the total number of corona infections in the US rose to 17,974,303, an increase of 183,927 (some 18 million) cases from the previous census.

Today, Thursday, the USDCP added that the number of deaths increased to 318569 after 1725 new deaths were recorded.

The results of the US centers do not necessarily reflect the cases recorded by each state separately.

The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that the weekly Corona infections in the world recorded the highest level since the start of the pandemic and that half of the infections are in the Americas.

The director of the American Center for Disease Control and Prevention also announced that one million Americans have so far received the first dose of the Corona vaccine.

Robert Redfield said that the United States today made a first but decisive stage, and local authorities have reported that more than a million people have received a first dose of a vaccine against COVID-19 since the vaccination campaign began 10 days ago.

The vaccination campaign was launched in the US after the American "Pfizer" company and the German "Biontech" company obtained licenses for its use, while the use of the American "Moderna" vaccine also began this week.
