Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, expressed Egypt’s deep appreciation for the leading role played by Angola during its current presidency of the African Union, during a phone call on Saturday with Angolan Foreign Minister Téte António.

The Egyptian foreign minister praised Angola’s contributions to strengthening joint African action, highlighting the intensive diplomatic activity and high-level meetings organized under the Angolan presidency. He stressed the importance of continued coordination ahead of the upcoming African Union Summit of Heads of State and Government, scheduled for mid-February, to ensure concrete outcomes that advance Africa’s priorities in peace, security, and development—particularly as Egypt assumes the presidency of the African Union Peace and Security Council in February 2026.

Both sides reviewed ways to further enhance bilateral relations and coordinate positions on issues of mutual interest. Abdelatty welcomed the growing momentum in Egyptian–Angolan relations and underscored the shared commitment to deepening political consultation and cooperation, building on the outcomes of the joint committee meeting held in Angola last December to advance ties across political, economic, and investment fields.

The Egyptian minister also reaffirmed Egypt’s interest in expanding cooperation in regional connectivity, transport, infrastructure, renewable energy, and pharmaceuticals. He noted the eagerness of Egyptian companies to invest in projects linked to the Lobito Development Corridor, emphasizing mutual benefits and expressing hope to convene the next edition of the Egyptian–Angolan Business Forum at the earliest opportunity.
