'Cairo Steps' to Hold New Orchestral in Alexandria

Egyptian-German ensemble Cairo Steps, founded by composer and oud player Basem Darwisch, will perform their first orchestra concert, accompanied by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Orchestra .The event will take place on 26 October 2019 at the main hall of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. according to Ahram online.

Cairo Steps, that frequently feature flutist Ines Abd El-Dayem, Egypt's current culture minister, merges traditional oriental grooves and spiritual chants with modern jazz and classics.

Their vision is crossing cultural, political and religious borders and building bridges between the Occident and the Orient.

Meanwhile, the concert is arranged by Mohamed Saad Basha, George Kolta Steven Simon, Rafeek Gamal Shoukry and Rami Attallah.

Noteworthy, the ensemble held a concert on Thursday 22 August, at the Alexandria Opera House featuring their frequent Islamic chanter guests Ali El-Helbawy and Ihab Yunis.

On other hand, winners of the German Jazz Award 2018, alongside German band Quadro Nuevo, for the album Flying Carpet, Cairo Steps that gained such an international success with their latest projects performing various concerts in prestigious venues in Germany, Egypt, Kuwait, UAE and other countries, are aiming at change.

Later, the Art Center of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina hosted its 17th International Summer Festival, between Friday 26 July to Saturday 31 August at their theater in Alexandria.

The festival included a variety of art activities like music concerts, theatre plays, films screening, poetry and stand-up comedy, in addition to a series of workshops and lectures on various aspects of art.
