After more than 30 years of absence, Cairo Opera House hosts a new Book Fair which kicked off today in Al Hanager Center.

The event is taking place between 19 November to 30 November and it witnesses the participation of 32 publishing houses.

A number of Ministry of Culture institutions that participated in the event included The National Center of Translation, Cultural Development Fund, and General Organization of Cultural Palaces.

The opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Culture Dr. Enas Abdel Dayem, and Egyptian Book Organization Dr. Haitham El-Haj Ali alongside a number of officials.

Abdel Dayem underscored the importance of organizing various book fairs in Egypt which creates a chance for writers, creators, and authors to express themselves.

In addition, the fair helps Egyptians in following the updates of cultural productions and widening their horizons of knowledge especially during the sensitive phase of the pandemic.

This is the first edition of the event to be organized at Cairo Opera House since 1983, after re-placing Cairo International Book Fair to "Ard Al Maared" in Nasr City.

The first edition of the Cairo International Book Fair was organized in 1969 at Cairo Opera House. It hosted the first 14 editions of the event until it was moved to a wider and bigger venue after the huge success of the event.

Cairo International Book Fair is considered one of the most prestigious book fairs internationally. It is the second oldest book fair in the world.
