After a three-year pause, one of the most anticipated sporting and cultural events returns to Egypt as the Korean Ambassador’s Taekwondo Championship is set to take place from October 9 to 11, 2025, at Cairo Stadium – Indoor Hall (1).
Bringing together athletes, fans, and cultural enthusiasts, this year’s edition promises not only thrilling competitions but also an unforgettable celebration of Korean heritage and the deep friendship between Korea and Egypt.
Organized in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Egypt, the Korean Cultural Center in Egypt, the Egyptian Taekwondo Federation, and with the support of the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation in Korea, the championship will run daily from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. under the esteemed patronage of the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Egypt.
This year’s tournament marks the first return of the event since 2022, after a suspension caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. As an annual tradition, the championship has long served as a platform for supporting the growth of Taekwondo in Egypt, while strengthening cultural and sports exchanges between Korea and Egypt.
The championship will feature 18 weight categories, with four divisions for men and women aged over 17, and five divisions for men and women under 17. Over the course of three days, spectators can expect fierce competitions, exceptional athletic skill, and moments of true sportsmanship.
Adding to the excitement, the program will include a special performance by the Kukkiwon World Taekwondo Headquarters demonstration team, globally renowned for showcasing the artistry, discipline, and technical excellence of Taekwondo. Their performance in Cairo will also serve as the launch of their regional tour, which will include stops in Tunisia and Morocco.
As the headquarters of World Taekwondo (WT), Kukkiwon unites federations from 168 countries and serves as the central institution dedicated to preserving and promoting the spirit and techniques of Taekwondo worldwide. Its demonstration team has toured many countries, showcasing the artistry and discipline of Korean Taekwondo on the international stage.
Oh Sungho, Director of the Korean Cultural Center in Egypt, said: ‘This tournament reflects the enduring friendship between Korea and Egypt, marking a special moment as we celebrate 30 years of diplomatic relations. It stands as a symbol of cultural and sporting exchange that continues to bring our two nations even closer.’
