Cairo Hosts Celebration for Russian Diplomacy Day

The Russian Cultural Center in Cairo hosted a special celebration to mark Russian Diplomacy Day, attended by Murad Gatin, Director of Russian Cultural Centers in Egypt, and Valery Pribytkov, Director of the Russian School affiliated with the Russian Embassy in Cairo.

The event brought together Russian diplomatic representatives in Egypt, students from the Russian School in Cairo, and Egyptian students studying the Russian language at the cultural center.

Murad Gatin opened the celebration with a speech on the importance of Russian Diplomacy Day, emphasizing the contributions of key diplomatic figures who played a vital role in strengthening Russia’s relations with friendly nations. He highlighted the legacy of Yevgeny Primakov, a renowned Russian diplomat, former Prime Minister, and Foreign Minister, who spent years working in Egypt. Fluent in Arabic, Primakov was instrumental in bridging ties between the Soviet Union and Arab nations over many decades.

Valery Pribytkov spoke about the core principles of Russian diplomacy, which focus on dialogue, communication, and mutual interests. He stressed Russia’s commitment to resolving international disputes through direct negotiations and diplomacy. He also highlighted the importance of young students in shaping the future, stating that many of them will one day contribute to Russian diplomatic efforts worldwide.

The event featured a photo exhibition showcasing rare archival images of Yevgeny Primakov, including his time in Cairo and his meetings with Arab leaders. The exhibition provided a glimpse into his efforts to foster cooperation between Russia and the Arab world.

As part of the celebration, a Russian delegation visited the burial site of former Russian Consul General Alexei Smirnov in Old Cairo’s St. George Church. Flowers were placed in memory of Russian diplomats who served in Egypt, honoring their contributions to strengthening bilateral relations.
