Dozens of trains were brought to a standstill in northeastern Czech Republic after thieves stole cables from key railway systems, local media reported on Monday.

According to the news outlet Novinky, the incident occurred on the railway line connecting the cities of Olomouc and Ostrava.

The disruption, which affected hundreds of passengers, took place on Sunday evening, forcing a temporary suspension of rail services. Train operations partially resumed a few hours later, with full restoration expected on Monday.

Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the theft.

The stolen cables were essential for controlling railway switches, traffic signals, and other critical infrastructure required to ensure the safe operation of trains, the report added.
