Egypt’s House of Representative (HOR) will hold an emergency session next Thursday at 12:00 PM to discuss Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s decision to reappoint Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) Governor Tarek Amer, for a second four-year term until November 2023.
The emergency session will be held amid speculations about a new cabinet reshuffle.
According to articles 215, 216 of the constitution, the President of the Republic appoints the heads of independent bodies and regulatory agencies, including CBE, after the approval of the HOR by a majority of its members for a period of four years, renewable once.
It is worth mentioning that, Egypt is set to see a large-scale cabinet reshuffle of at least 10 ministers of Moustafa Madbouly’s government this week, according to parliamentary sources.
In statements, MP Mohamed Abdel Ghani said that the reshuffle comes, at this specific time, in response to people’s sense of dissatisfaction with the performance of the government, and the lack of a clear improvement in the living standards of most citizens.
He anticipated changes to ministries of supply, health, finance, trade and industry, planning, housing, higher education, local development, education, and social solidarity.
The government previously received a vote of confidence from parliament in July 2018.
