Cabinet Approves Establishment of "Lifeboats" Initiative

The Cabinet approved a project to establish the “Egyptian German Center for Jobs, Immigration and Reintegration” to activate the "lifeboats" initiative, which enhances efforts to combat illegal immigration.

On her part, Minister of State for Migration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Nabila Makram praised the exceptional cooperation with both the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of International Cooperation, as well as the German side, which showed great flexibility in negotiations to establish the first center of its kind in the country.

Makram added that the project comes within the framework of bilateral cooperation between Egypt and Germany to reduce the phenomenon of illegal immigration and protect the lives of migrants and transients.

She pointed out that this cooperation comes in the light of the economic cooperation protocol signed between the Egyptian Ministry of International Cooperation and the German Ministry of Development last November, after a brief study of the European Union markets with the importance of providing job opportunities for Egyptian youth abroad.

Makram confirmed that the project aims to provide counseling, advice, information and training courses for Egyptians, including employment opportunities in both Egypt and Germany.

The center will also put a spot on the risks of illegal immigration and requirements for legal immigration to Germany as well as providing rehabilitation and employment opportunities for Egyptians returning from Germany.

The Minister pointed out that the center’s mechanism will be based on providing services to Egyptian citizens in accordance with Egypt 2030 vision through awareness-raising programs to absorb returning Egyptians from abroad and ensuring their effective participation in society.

She also affirmed that the approval of the project and its submission to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is the culmination of cooperation between various state institutions and the German side, to preserve the Egyptian state’s gains in the field of combating illegal immigration, which have received global recognition.
