Karlsruhe" Nazi ship, which sank in 1940, was found off the Norwegian coast

Its wreck was discovered by chance at a depth of approximately 500 meters during an inspection of a marine electric wire.

"Sometimes we find historical artifacts, but we have never found a wreck of this importance," Ole Peter Huberstad, a senior engineer at the company "Statent", which operates the electric wire, told AFP.

The German warship, which reached 174 meters, was sent as part of the invasion of Norway during World War 2.

After the soldiers landed on April 9, 1940, it was attacked by Norwegian forces before it was attacked by a British submarine,  Which was blown up by a torpedo, so the German forces decided to sink it off the port of Kristians and in southern Norway.

Three years ago, sonar devices detected debris near a high-tension cable connecting Norway and Denmark, but it was not time for "Statent " to do more research, according to the company.

But on June 30, during an inspection of the submarine cable after a storm, a steering device detected huge debris about 15 meters from the wire.

"It was blown up by a torpedo … It soon became clear from its cannons and one of the Nazi symbols on it that it was a ship belonging to the period of war," according to a statement, "Statent".

The Maritime Museum in Norway confirmed that the wreck is the "Karlsruhe" ship, which has not been found since its sinking 80 years ago.

The ship, whose wreckage is located 13 nautical miles from Kristians and, was built in Kiel in northern Germany and put into service in 1927
