"By Art, We Can Change" : New Initiative to Combat Drugs

"By art, we can change ... You are stronger than drugs" is a new initiative launched for combating and treating addiction.

The initiative aims to educate citizens in various fields about the harmful effects of drugs, especially in Islamic related places, during the holy month of Ramadan.

Firstly, it was launched from the Cultural Park in Sayeda Zeinab. Dr. Ghada Wali, Minister of Social Solidarity, said that the initiative aims to increase awareness of the harmful effects of drugs on people, the role of families in the stages of early detection and treatment through specific centers which have hotlines for communication.

The objectives of the initiative are explained by a group of specialists and volunteers. They make direct communication with citizens and their families and respond to their inquiries about the nature of the disease of addicts. They also show methods of prevention and early detection of abuse.

Amr Othman, director of the initiative, said that artistic, creative and cultural methods are used to educate citizens about the harmful effects of drugs, adding that the initiative was launched from the cultural park in Sayeda Zeinab.

He also said that the initiative will also be implemented in many areas, such as the house of the poet and the northern wall of Cairo.
