Bullet Train Services Halted in Japan Due to Heavy Rain

Bullet train services in Japan were temporarily suspended on Thursday afternoon as heavy rainfall lashed Tokyo and its surrounding areas.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, nearly 100 millimeters of rain fell in Tokyo’s Setagaya Ward within just one hour, up to 2:30 p.m. local time. The sudden downpour prompted safety concerns and disruption to transport across the capital.

Rail operator JR Tokai announced that Shinkansen bullet train services between Shinagawa Station in Tokyo and Shin-Yokohama Station in neighboring Kanagawa Prefecture were temporarily halted.

The company cited heavy rain in Kawasaki City, located between the two stations, as the reason for the suspension.
