In June 23-24, the International forum on Inter-Parliamentary Global Cooperation in the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals will be held in Bukhara city, Uzbekistan.
The aim of the international forum is to expand the ties of inter-parliamentary cooperation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), to improve legislation in implementing national goals and objectives in this area, as well as to develop proposals and recommendations to strengthen parliamentary oversight mechanisms in this sphere.
It is expected that the Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Martin Chungong, President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Peter Lord Bowness, Secretary-General of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking Countries Altynbek Mamayusupov, as well as the members of the parliament of foreign countries, inter-parliamentary organizations, youth organizations, government bodies, international organizations, NGOs, media representatives and experts from research institutions will take part in it both in the traditional mode and online.
Global Forum participants will present their reports, proposals and recommendations. Whereas, participants include members of parliaments across the globe. Particularly, the European Parliament, the Parliament of Canada, Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Latvia, Bulgaria, South Korea, China, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Turkey, Iran, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan. Also, it is expected that experts from more than 30 international organizations will deliver their findings on the Forum.
The main thematic areas of the international forum are:
• The role of Parliament in ensuring effective implementation of the SDGs;
• The Funding of the implementation of the SDGs;
• The creation of statistical indicators of the SDG;
• The participation of civil society institutions and public in the implementation of the SDGs;
• Parliamentary control, monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of the SDGs;
• Ensuring international dialogue and global partnership with the parliaments of the world for sustainable development.
Following the results of the Global Forum, it is planned to adopt the Bukhara Declaration of the Global Cooperation in Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals.
