Broad Rejection in Sudan to Proposed Three-Month Cease-Fire Amid Ongoing Violence

A proposed three-month cease-fire in Sudan has been met with widespread rejection from political forces and military actors, who argue that continued fighting on multiple fronts makes such an initiative unworkable.

The proposal, backed by the United States, comes as clashes persist between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) across several regions.

Local media reported that many Sudanese parties consider the timing of the cease-fire unsuitable, noting that similar initiatives put forward in recent months — including those proposed by the quadripartite mechanism — have failed to halt the violence.

Fighting remains active in parts of Kordofan and Darfur, where RSF units have been accused of committing fresh violations and launching new attacks on towns and villages. The renewed violence has triggered additional waves of displacement, forcing families to flee toward areas such as Al-Tawila, Al-Dabba, and camps surrounding Omdurman.

Conditions in southern Kordofan have deteriorated sharply, particularly in Dalanj and the state capital, Kadugli, where residents face siege-like circumstances and growing shortages of food, medical supplies, and essential services.

Sudan has been engulfed in conflict since 2023, and despite multiple rounds of mediation and temporary truces, efforts to reach a sustained cessation of hostilities have yet to take hold.
