British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak held phone talks with the emir of Qatar and the Turkish President on Friday to discuss defense collaboration and the Ukraine crisis, Downing Street stated.
Sunak and Qatar's head of state Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani agreed to continue to work together bilaterally as well as through a future Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) trade deal, the statement read.
In the same vein, the Prime Minister offered his condolences to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for the recent terrorist attacks in Turkey and stressed the UK’s commitment to upholding regional security as a bilateral and NATO partners.
Last November, Sunak met with U.S. President Joe Biden on the at the G20 summit in Bali, where the two leaders stressed their full support for Ukraine.
The two leaders “discussed Russia’s barbaric missile strikes in Ukraine and underscored their governments’ strong support for Ukraine as it defends itself against Russian aggression,” according to the White House said.
It added: “They also discussed the explosion that took place in the eastern part of Poland and the full support for Poland’s ongoing investigation.”
