British Minister for Middle East Visits Palestine for 1st Time

UK Minister for the Middle East Lord Tariq Ahmad visited Palestine for the first time on Wednesday and announced a $4.48 million humanitarian package for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

Lord Ahmed held a meeting with Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riyad Al Malki who urged the international community to provide protection for the Palestinian people and ensure the cessation of Israeli violations against them.

On his part, Lord Ahmad stressed Britain's firm position on the two-state solution and the importance of reopening channels of constructive dialogue between the two parties to ensure peace and security in the region.

"My visit comes at a difficult but important time for the Palestinian people, and I want to re-emphasize UK support to the Palestinian people and our unwavering commitment to a negotiated two-state solution as the only means of ending this conflict," Ahmad said in a statement.

The two sides hailed the depth of the Palestinian-British relations, emphasizing that the cooperation should culminate in holding the annual strategic dialogue with the British Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development.

"Visits to various parts of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem will allow me to witness first-hand the challenges facing Palestinians as well as to see the impact of UK funding to some of the most vulnerable," the British official.

In the same vein, he affirmed that developing a joint ministerial committee to strengthen relations between the two countries.
