British Foreign Secretary David Lammy made his first visit to the Middle East since taking office, as he is scheduled to visit Israel and Palestine today.
The British Foreign Office said in a statement on Sunday that during the visit, Lamy will call for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all Israeli hostages held by Hamas, and an increase in humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
It added: Lamy is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, noting that Lammy will announce during his visit that another 5.5 million pounds sterling will be provided this year to the UK-Med charity to fund relief work in the Gaza Strip. This funding will also be used to support the continuation of work in the field hospitals and the emergency department at Nasser Hospital.
