British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper praised Egypt’s efforts to support peace initiatives in the Gaza Strip, alongside mediation efforts by the United States, Qatar, and Turkey.
In remarks reported by The Guardian, Cooper said these diplomatic efforts have helped maintain momentum toward a political solution, while stressing the need for faster progress amid the continuing humanitarian situation in Gaza.
She said recent developments between the United States and Iran could provide an opportunity to advance peace efforts and move forward with plans aimed at ending the conflict and supporting Gaza’s recovery.
Cooper also revealed that she had met Ali Shaath, head of the Palestinian committee tasked with overseeing Gaza’s future administration, as part of discussions on post-war arrangements in the territory.
The British foreign secretary is currently visiting Egypt for talks on Gaza developments and efforts to support regional stability.
