British Amb.: Duke of Edinburgh's Int'nal Award Supports Citizenship

Life Makers-Egypt Foundation awarded 48 volunteers the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award. The ceremony was held in the presence of The British Ambassador to Egypt, Sir Geoffrey Adams.

Adams said that the award’s name relates to the royal family in Britain and it enables youth to adopt new challenges and get wide life experiences.

“The award supports citizenship world-wide and it’s such an inspiring scene to see Egyptian youth attending today only to serve their country in a unique and distinct way,” he added.

The British envoy thanked the foundation, volunteers and their parents who encourage their sons to take the course of serving their country.

On his part, Dr. Mohamed Yahya, the secretary general and founder of the foundation, stressed that the award, which exist in more than 100 countries world-wide, is a creative way by which Egyptian youth would be successful in all life aspects.

“The award was launched to support volunteers who shouldn’t involve in charitable work only but in all other fields like sports activities,” he clarified.

Amr Hassib, chairman of the board of trustees, pointed out that the award enables the volunteers to be decision makers as well as enjoying music, art and nature.

Dr. Ahmed Gamal El-Din Moussa, the former minister of education and member of the foundation's board of trustees, stressed that volunteerism is the main reason behind the advancement of societies.

“The award focuses on self- learning system to develop youth skills,” he added.

Nouran Amjad, one of the award’s winner, said that she learnt a lot through her journey at Life Makers; the most important two lessons were knowing that nothing is impossible besides being able to set life priorities.

Duke of Edinburgh's International Award

It’s the first-of-its-kind international award that is directed to youth; who range in ages from 14 to 24 years. In 2015, more than 1.1 million young people from more than 140 countries applied for it. Foreigner students living in Egypt can also apply for the award.

Life Makers-Egypt Foundation

It’s an NGO leading charity organization that was founded in 2011 and works in line with the NGO Egyptian law. It’s worth mentioning that this is the second ceremony to be organized by the Foundation to honor its volunteers.
