Moreover, the British Ambassador said they are building a strong partnership between the two countries on perhaps the biggest challenge facing the world, which is climate change.

In the same vein, the ambassador called upon the resumption of direct flights between the UK and Sharm El-Sheikh, a step which gave a boost to the Egyptian tourist industry.

The ambassador also announced that his successor will be Gareth Bayley who is an old friend. "He and I served here together twenty years ago.” he stressed. "He learned Arabic here in Cairo and speaks Arabic very well.”

He emphasized that he experienced a wonderful time in Egypt along with his family, noting that they traveled all over the country and met with many wonderful people.

"I have a personal history with Egypt. I first came here in the 1970s, and I served here twenty years ago," the ambassador mentioned. "My father retired from the diplomatic service as British Ambassador to Egypt nearly 50 years ago. And I will be doing exactly the same thing."

“My family and I drank from the Nile. This not a goodbye, but until we meet again,” the British diplomat concluded.
