British Ambassador to Egypt Gareth Bayley attended the launch of EgyptAir’s first departure flight from Cairo to Manchester at 10 am yesterday in celebration of the new direct flight service between the two cities. The service will run five times a week, and is the second time that EgyptAir has flown this route, the last being 2013-14.
The inbound flight from Manchester left on the same day at 14.30, landing in Cairo at 21.35.
Egyptian Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Abbas Helmy and Chairman and CEO of EgyptAir Engineer Yehia Zakria also attended the launch. Engineer Zakria presented a shield to Ambassador Bayley before handing over gift bags to the flight’s passengers.
British Ambassador to Egypt Gareth Bayley said: “I was delighted to witness the launch of EgyptAir’s first flight to Manchester, marking the opening of this latest route between the UK and Egypt. This expansion opens up exciting opportunities for both Egyptian and British travellers. It will enhance our already thriving tourism, cultural and trade relations. Above all, it connects our peoples.”
This route to Manchester is the only other route operating from the UK to Cairo besides London. Manchester is considered one of the top destinations in the UK. Besides football, the city is known for being the birthplace of the UK’s industrial revolution and has a lot of transport history of its own, including the UK’s first ever canal. It’s also known for its vibrant music festivals and world-class street art. Manchester Airport is also one of the largest airports in the UK.
