Britain's opposition Labor Party leader Heir Starmer said on Friday he would push for a general early election by introducing a vote of confidence in Prime Minister Boris Johnson next week unless Conservative MPs moved to remove him.

Johnson has said he will resign when a new Conservative leader is chosen, with more details announced on the timetable to be set next week by the 1922 Conservative Party committee.

Asked during a press conference if he was pressing a vote of no confidence next week for a general election, Starmer replied: "Yes," and considered that "Conservative MPs should impeach Johnson now rather than wait for the next leader."

He added: "The Conservative Party have to do the right thing and there are meetings early next week with the 1922 Committee, so they have to do the right thing... If they don't, we will have a vote of no confidence."
