The British "Sky News" network reported today (Saturday) that plans are expected to be announced within weeks of the British government to move migrants from hotels to military bases or even abandoned ferries.
The report said previous proposals to use holiday camps and student hostels to house migrants were not likely to be implemented.
The British government has indicated that it wants to end the use of hotels to house asylum seekers.
A Home Office spokesperson said: "We are always vocal about the unprecedented pressure our asylum system is under, which has been caused by a huge increase in risky and illegal journeys into the country."
And earlier this month the government detailed a new law banning entry to asylum seekers arriving in small boats across the English Channel, a proposal some charities say could be impractical and criminalize the attempts of thousands of asylum seekers.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has made preventing boat arrivals a major priority after the number of migrants arriving on England's south coast rose by 500 percent in two years to 45,000 last year.
