In an exclusive interview with TV BRICS, Etta Ojang Ivan, Deputy Director of the National Museum of Cameroon, emphasized the pivotal role of BRICS-led cooperation in safeguarding Africa’s cultural legacy.
Ivan argued that African nations can more effectively overcome challenges of cultural preservation by engaging in collaborative initiatives with BRICS countries—endeavors that unite cultural experts, local communities, and international stakeholders.
He further highlighted the potential of the BRICS Alliance of Art Museums and Galleries, which could provide vital platforms for African artists who currently face limited exposure. Through collaboration and shared exhibitions, such engagement could promote cultural exchange and deepen ties between BRICS member states and African nations.
Ivan also discussed an existing partnership between Cameroon’s National Museum and Russia’s State Museum of Oriental Art, a collaboration that seeks to spotlight African heritage within Russian and international audiences.
Looking ahead, Ivan welcomed the possible establishment of a Museum of African Cultures in Moscow, calling it a “brilliant initiative” that could act as a cultural bridge—allowing people to experience African heritage outside the continent.
