Lebanon has announced Tuesday the formation of a new government chaired by Prime Minister Hassan Diab.

Lebanon's President Michel Aoun signed a decree on appointing the new 20-member cabinet.

Daily Star reported that the formation of the new government came after Diab was convinced to increase the number of ministers from 18 to 20.

Following the announcement, Diab vowed that his government will strive to meet protesters' demands, while preserving the country's stability.

The government will also work on drafting a new election law and meeting the Lebanese people demands, Diab said.

The new government will now need a vote of confidence of Lebanon's 128-member Parliament.

"Outgoing Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s Future Movement, the Lebanese Forces, the Progressive Socialist Party and the Kataeb Party do not have any representation in the new government," Daily Star reported.

The recent wave of anger has worsened the crisis in Lebanon, which is facing economic and political turmoil, seen as the worst crisis since the 1975 to 1990 civil war.

Since last October, Lebanon is facing a sharp political crisis with the continuous failure of politicians to form a government that would calm protests sweeping the country.
