An Egyptian fighter jet has shortly crashed during routine military training drills, and the pilot was martyred, the military spokesperson Tamer Al-Rifai said in a brief statement.
He added that the reasons behind the crash is not known yet.
It is noteworthy that the Egyptian Air Force is currently participating in the Qader 2020 military drills along with some units affiliated to the northern military zone and naval forces.
The drills include joint training between the naval, air, coast guard and commandos forces for securing the Mediterranean Sea coast, repelling a marine attack and proving the armed forces’ capability to secure national interests and tackle all hostilities in strategic directions simultaneously.
The Border Guards are also cooperating with the Air Force in drills for securing Egypt’s borders and coasts, alongside implementing drills which included thwarting an illegal immigration attempt across the Mediterranean coast, infiltration and smuggling attempts across the western land borderline.
"Qader 2020" comes as an affirmation on the Egyptian Armed Forces’ strength and readiness to secure the nation’s capabilities and wealth," the statement said.
