The majority of Sudanese cabinet members and a large number of pro-government parties' leaders have been detained in Khartoum, according to Reuters.
Sudanese people took to the streets to protest against the arrests, setting fire on tyres.
A number of schools were closed and the internet was cut off throughout the country.
