The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that a citizen of the Southern American country was killed "on the territory of Ukraine as a result of the conflict."

"Via Brazil’s embassy in Kiev, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received a confirmation of its citizen’s death on the territory of Ukraine as a result of the conflict, and is staying in touch with his relatives to provide all possible assistance within the framework of international agreements and local laws," the ministry said in a statement.

In addition, the ministry pointed out that from the very outset of the conflict it strongly recommended citizens avoid visiting Ukraine.

Earlier social network posts identified the man as Andre Luis Hack Bahi, a former Brazilian serviceman. Along with three other citizens of Brazil, the man was a member of the so-called International Legion of Territorial Defense of Ukraine and fought against Russian troops.

The mercenary’s sister confirmed his death, saying that he was killed in battle on Saturday, June 4.

In May, a French journalist was killed when Russian forces struck a vehicle, used for the evacuation of civilians in Luhansk Oblast, a Ukrainian foreign ministry announced.

Frédéric Leclerc Imhoff, a French reporter who was covering the evacuation process, was killed near Severodonetsk in Ukraine after the vehicle he was in came under fire, according to a statement posted by Luhansk’s regional governor Serhiy Haidai.

French President Emmanuel Macron tweeted: “On board a humanitarian bus, alongside civilians forced to flee to escape Russian bombs, he was fatally shot.”

To those who carry out the difficult mission of informing in theatres of operations, I would like to reiterate France’s unconditional support.”
