Brazil, Spain, and Mexico have called for increased international assistance to Cuba, citing growing concern over the country’s worsening humanitarian situation.

The appeal followed a leaders’ meeting at the Barcelona Democracy Summit, where the three governments issued a joint statement expressing deep concern over the crisis and urging measures to ease living conditions while avoiding actions that could further deteriorate the situation.

The statement emphasized the need for coordinated humanitarian efforts to support the Cuban population and reaffirmed commitment to international law, sovereignty, and the peaceful resolution of disputes in line with the United Nations Charter.

The three countries also reiterated their support for human rights and democratic values, calling for constructive dialogue to reach a long-term solution. They stressed that Cuba’s future should be determined freely by its own people.

The call comes amid heightened tensions following recent measures by US President Donald Trump, including tariffs on oil imports from countries supplying Cuba and the declaration of a national emergency over security concerns.

Cuban authorities have accused the US of using economic pressure to worsen living conditions on the island.

Meanwhile, Russia has stepped up its support, with Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov visiting Cuba last week. Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel expressed gratitude for Moscow’s backing, which has included humanitarian oil shipments.
