Brazil and South Africa have signed a Memorandum of Intent (MoI) aimed at deepening bilateral agricultural cooperation, with a strong emphasis on sustainability, innovation, and food security, TV BRICS reported.

The agreement was formalized on the sidelines of the G20 Agricultural Working Group meeting in Western Cape by South Africa’s Minister of Agriculture John Steenhuisen and Brazil’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Luiz De Alcantara Rua.

Under the MoI, the two countries will collaborate over the next five years through technical exchanges, joint training programs, study visits, and the promotion of sustainable farming practices. The framework also covers cooperation in livestock systems, quality assurance standards, and consumer protection measures.

The deal is designed to facilitate agricultural trade, with provisions for business missions and participation in agricultural fairs to unlock new market opportunities. Trade between the two nations has already been expanding significantly, growing by over 80% between 2020 and 2024.

To ensure the plan’s success, a Joint Working Group will be created to define priority areas, draft an action plan, and align cooperation with the strategic goals of both partners.

This agreement marks a new stage in Brazil–South Africa agricultural relations, reinforcing their commitment to building resilient food systems while promoting sustainable economic growth.
