Brazilian President Jair Bolsenaro commented on the global interest in the Coronavirus pandemic, and complained that everything is now related to it, according to Sputnik News agency.
The president downplayed the risks of the virus, despite the fact that Brazil is the second most-badly hit country in the world after the US.
Speaking during a ceremony to announce plans for the tourism industry, Bolsonaro said that he is sorry for those who lost their lives, but, “everyone will die someday.”
Moreover, on Wednesday Brazil’s health regulator Anvisa allowed the resumption of the trials, which had been suspended due to the death of a study subject that was registered in Sao Paulo as a suicide.
Anvisa reported the initial information it received about the case, which led to the suspension, had been incomplete and lacked the cause of the severe adverse event, according to The Independent. On July 7, Bolsonaro has announced that he contracted COVID-19, before testing positive once again on Wednesday, July 15.
The Brazilian president downplayed the severity of the virus, calling it a “little flu” even as Brazil’s outbreak became the worst in the world outside the United States; its death toll has reached over 74,000, out of nearly 2 million confirmed cases.
Noteworthy, Brazil is suffering one of the world’s worst Covid-19 outbreaks, with over 5.7 million confirmed cases and 163,000 virus-related deaths.
