On Thursday, the Brazilian government expelled Nicaragua's ambassador from the country in response to a similar step taken by the President of the Central American country, Daniel Ortega.
The press office of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the decision had been taken to expel Nicaraguan Ambassador Fulvia Patricia Castro Matto.
He added that the Brazilian ambassador to Nicaragua, Breno da Costa, was expelled on Monday.
The office stated that da Costa was expelled for not attending the celebrations of the forty-fifth anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution in Nicaragua.
