British energy company BP announced the start of production from its new well “RW5,” adding 80 million cubic feet of gas per day to Egypt’s West Delta Deep Marine project.

In a statement on Sunday, BP said this milestone coincides with an increase in output from another well, “RW4,” bringing the combined production from both wells to around 140 million cubic feet per day since the beginning of this year.

Nader Zaki, BP’s Regional President for the Middle East and North Africa, said:

“This production is part of the additional wells program in the Raven field, which aligns with our efforts to support Egypt’s vision of meeting local energy demand and advancing BP’s growth strategy in the region.”

Meanwhile, Egypt moves closer to finalizing an agreement to export 650 million cubic meters of natural gas annually to Lebanon through the Arab Gas Pipeline by the end of this year, according to a government official cited by Asharq.

The planned exports were facilitated by the U.S. Congress’s recent repeal of the Caesar Act sanctions on Syria, which had previously obstructed the implementation of the 2022 Egypt-Lebanon gas deal allowing Egyptian gas to transit through Syrian territory.
