European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, has called on the Israeli government to take "swift action" to ensure aid reaches northern Gaza and to prevent its residents from "starving to death."
In a statement, Borrell reiterated the need for the release of hostages and a ceasefire in Gaza, stating, "The Israeli government must act quickly to prevent civilian deaths from hunger and comply with its obligations under international law," as reported by the Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia.
The EU's chief diplomat expressed the bloc's "deep concern" about the situation in northern Gaza, emphasizing the urgent need for "full, rapid, and safe access" for humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Borrell also referenced information from the World Health Organization, stating that "hundreds of civilians" have been killed in Gaza since the outbreak of hostilities.
