EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, has proposed suspending political dialogue with Israel, following reports confirming its violations of human rights and international law in the Gaza Strip.
According to the "Euronews" website, European officials and diplomats stated that Borrell introduced his proposal for the first time during an ambassadors' meeting on Wednesday. He is expected to bring it up again at the upcoming EU Foreign Ministers’ meeting scheduled for next Monday.
Borrell attributed his proposal to "reports of Israel's violations of human rights and international law in Gaza."
The website also noted that the proposal would require unanimous agreement among EU member states for implementation. However, reaching consensus is unlikely due to divisions within the EU on Israel and the Palestinian issue.
