On Wednesday, European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell called on Iran to use its influence to avoid further escalation in the Middle East, reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and improve the situation of civilians in the Strip, stressing that the Union will continue to do its utmost to support voices for peace and mind.
This came during Borrell's meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings, according to a press release published by the European Union External Action Service on its official website today.
He said: "The complete military escalation and its devastating consequences on the entire region must be tackled urgently."
In a bilateral meeting, the two sides discussed the European Union's position towards some issues with a particular focus on Iranian military support for Russia.
