The European Union's foreign policy coordinator, Josep Borrell, confirmed today, Tuesday, that the Swedish diplomat, Johan Fluderos, who works for the European Union, has been detained in Iran for more than 500 days.
According to media reports, an official from Sweden working for the European Union has been imprisoned in Iran for more than 500 days after he traveled there to visit a friend who worked at the Swedish embassy in Tehran.
Swedish official Johan Fluderos, 33, traveled to Iran as a tourist last spring, in April.
But in July last year, the Iranian government issued a statement announcing that it had arrested a Swedish citizen on charges of espionage and sent him to Evin Prison, northwest of the Iranian capital.
At the time, Iran did not reveal the identity of the prisoner, but the American New York Times was the first newspaper to reveal the identity of the diplomat in its report.
