BMW said in a statement on Tuesday that it will sell nearly 700,000 electric cars by 2025.
The German automaker plans to boost sales of electric and hybrid cars by about 30 percent annually until 2025. The company also expects to double its electric vehicle sales between 2019 and 2020.
BMW Group CEO Harald Krüger said that the company is bringing about transformation towards sustainable mobility, expecting a sharp growth curve by 2025. "Over the past two years, we have consistently taken numerous decisions that we are now bringing to the roads," he added.

The automaker sold 142,000 electric and hybrid vehicles last year, which account for nearly 6 percent of its total car sale, witnessing a 38 percent increase compared to its 2018 estimates.
In the meantime, a solid charging infrastructure needs to be established to encourage more prospective buyers. A fact that manufacturers are well aware of and therefore they pressured Chancellor Angela Merkel on that point in a top-level meeting in the German capital Berlin on Monday.
Car companies, politicians, and union representatives agreed on the need for providing enough charging points to support approximately 10 million electric cars on German roads by 2030.
