Germany is in talks with several defense industry companies about constructing an anti-missile defense system worth 17 billion Euros, Bloomberg reported Wednesday.
The sources told the agency that the government of Chancellor Olaf Scholz is in talks with Diehl Defense Company regarding the manufacture of 8 IRIS-T air defense systems within a contract valued at between two and three billion Euros.
In general, the missile shield will include various systems, and its goal will be to protect Germany and neighboring countries from missile attacks.
It is noteworthy that the estimates regarding the value of the deal may change, given that the talks are still ongoing.
It is expected that the program will include the purchase of Israeli Arrow 3 systems at a value of about 4 billion euros, and American "Patriot" systems, which will be worth about 10 billion Euros, according to the sources.
It is planned to integrate the German missile shield, which was announced by Scholz for the first time last August, with the European "Sky Shield" system, which is planned to be established with the participation of no less than 15 countries, most of which are members of NATO.
